  • Pivotal Greenplum Database (GPDB) 4.3.x
  • Operating System- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.x

When backing up a database using gprondump with the "-dump-stats" option, the time to complete the backup may take a very long time.

Note: The output from the command will show the start of the statistics gathering the following:

gpcrondump:mdw:gpadmin-[INFO]:-Commencing pg_statistic dump

Improvements have been made in and above. The following is from the Release Notes:

  • Performance has been improved for the Greenplum Database gpcrondump utility when the --dump-stats option is specified to backup database statistics. Performance has been significantly improved by caching the connection to the database instead of opening new connections when gpcrondump backs up database statistics.
