Host key for server XX.XX.XX.XX does not match

Environment

Greenplum: 4.x

Symptom

The command gpssh-exkeys fails with the error

Host key for server XX.XX.XX.XX does not match

Cause

The file ~/.ssh/known_hosts stores the hosts' public keys. If the host key changes because the IP address has moved to a new host to the remote host has been re-installed, then the old known key needs to be removed from the known_hosts file.

Resolution

  1. Edit the file ~/.ssh/known_hosts using VI or another editor
  2. Search for and remove the lines that refer to the IP address in the error message
  3. Then re-run the gpssh-exkeys command
