PCF MySQL changing the name of an existing Galera cluster

Environment

Pivotal Cloud Foundry®

P-MySQL 1.9.6

Ops Manager

Background

P-MySQL 1.9.6 can set the name of a Galera cluster, but it only works on new deployments.

Refer to 1.9.6 documentation.

Details

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to do the same for existing deployments. After upgrading to 1.9.6, a user must do a variant of the steps outlined in open source, BUT instead of setting the property (as one normally would when using BOSH), they must export, modify then re-import their Ops Manager settings to change the property. It's still required that they scale down to one, etc., hitting Apply Changes at each change.

Resolution

For this reason, we do not publish documentation for a customer to do this on their own. Modifying Ops Manager settings is dangerous, and thus should only be done with Pivotal Support's assistance.
