How to generate a randomized Administrator Password

Environment

Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) 1.10, 1.11. 1.12

Purpose

By default, the BOSH Agent in 1200.7 now randomizes the password for the default Administrator user. If you need to set the password (i.e. for RDP), this describes how to do so.

Instructions

The Windows Utilities Release contains a set_password job that sets the password for the default “Administrator” user on Windows VMs. There’s a known issue that prevents this from working on some public IaaS that is being addressed by the BOSH Windows team. In the meantime, an operator should use the web dashboard of the IaaS to create a user and set a password to get into a VM.

For GCP, a user can use BOSH SSH to enter into a PowerShell session and re-enable the user called “Administrator.”
