"Cannot retrieve data" error on PCC "HDB Queries" tab

Environment

  • PHD 1.x
  • PHD 2.0.0.0

Problem

You might see the below error message on the tab "HDB Queries" at Pivotal Command Center.

"Cannot retrieve data"

Possible cause and fix

  1. Admin node might not be present in the pg_hba.conf file at the HDB Master due to which connection from admin node could not be made. You might see error message in the HDB master logs like below
psql: FATAL:  no pg_hba.conf entry for host "10.14.233.40", user "gpadmin", database "postgres", SSL off
FIX: Update $MASTER_DATA_DIRECTORY/pg_hba.conf on HDB Master to allow connections from Admin host and do a reload using
  2. The gpadmin user password has changed in HDB (hawq) but not in the commander database. This error will be observed in HDB (hawq) master logs located in $MASTER_DATA_DIRECTORY/pg_log
    2014-04-07 10:33:18.286245 PDT,"gpadmin","postgres",p178105,th635385632,"172.28.8.250","27576",2014-04-07 10:33:18 PDT,0,,,seg-1,,,,,"FATAL","28P01","password authentication failed for user ""gpadmin""",,,,,,,0,,"auth.c",324,

FIX: change gpadmin password inHDB back to the original password defined during icm cluster deployment so both HDB and pcc databases are in sync.  Enhancement request filed under internal JIRA CC-3618 for procedures to change gpadmin password in both HDB and PCC.

Troubleshooting Tip

You can test pcc connectivity to HDB master database by running the following command.  Please make sure the hostname and port match the HDB master configuration.

psql -h <hawq master hostname> -p 5432 -U gpadmin template0
