Fails to start PostgreSQl for PCC with error "could not bind IPv6 socket: Permission denied"

Environment

Product Version
Pivotal Hadoop 1.x
OS RHEL 6.x

Symptom

Before starting PCC, postgresql database fails to start with error message in /var/lib/pgsql/pgstartup.log:

LOG: could not bind IPv6 socket: Permission denied
HINT: Is another postmaster already running on port 10432? If not, wait a few seconds and retry.
LOG: could not bind IPv4 socket: Permission denied
HINT: Is another postmaster already running on port 10432? If not, wait a few seconds and retry.
WARNING: could not create listen socket for "localhost"
FATAL: could not create any TCP/IP sockets

Checked that no other process occupies the port 10432 using command "netstat -anp|grep 10432".

Cause

selinux is enabled.

Resolution

1. As root user, disable selinux temporarily:

echo 0 >/selinux/enforce

2. Disable selinux permanently:

In /etc/selinux/config, change the value for the SELINUX parameter to:

SELINUX=disabled

Or you can change it to use permissive mode:

SELINUX=permissive

3. Start postgresql database:

service postgresql start
