Leap Second Fix for DCA V1 & V2

Problem

On June 30, 2015, at approximately 23:59:59, the world’s atomic clocks will pause for a single second.  More precisely, the clocks will change to the unchartered time of 23:59:60 before advancing to the worldly hour of 00:00:00 on the morning of July 1, 2015.  This change effectively adds a “leap second” adjustment to UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) in an effort to keep the UTC time of day close to mean solar time.

When are the Leap Second hotfix patches available for the DCA V1 & V2?

Solution

The Leap Second fix is included in our latest DCA software releases.

  • DCA V1: 1.2.2.3 (released 4/10/15)
  • DCA V2: 2.1.1.0 (released 4/17/15)

We highly recommend to schedule a DCA upgrade to our latest versions which includes the leap second fix. Please open a service request to proceed with the DCA upgrade.

There are hotfixes available for each DCA if absolutely necessary. If this route is chosen the hotfix must be uninstalled prior to the next DCA upgrade.

    Hi Josh,
Does the fix still need to be applied to DCA if it's already after June 30, 2015?

    Hi Scott,

There are a couple answers to this question.

    1. If the DCA is configured to use an external NTP server for time sync then the clocks are in sync with the world. In this scenario the patch is not needed. The leap second patch (tzdata rpm) is included in our latest DCA software packages so customers will get the patch when they upgrade.

    2. If the DCA is not configured to use an external NTP server then the time is off by 1 second. We recommend to manually adjust the time on the master and then sync the cluster using dca_setup / Clocks Configuration. The patch is not necessary at this point as the leap second has already occurred. But the leap second patch (tzdata rpm) is included in our latest DCA software packages so customers will get the patch when they upgrade.
