Ops Manager reports that it is missing Datacenter level privileges

Product Version
Pivotal Cloud Foundry® (PCF) 1.5.x, 1.6.x, 1.7.x

The Ops Manager Director tile tests that the vCenter user has required privileges. It reports that the following privileges are needed at the Datacenter level; however, the account has been given these privileges.

  • Folder.Delete
  • VirtualMachine.Inventory.Delete
  • VirtualMachine.Inventory.Unregister

Per the Pivotal Document on vSphere/vCenter Requirements:

"Ops Manager requires read/write permissions to the datacenter level of the vSphere Inventory Hierarchy to successfully install"

Ops Manager will throw this error when the permissions are not set on the root level; if your permissions are set at a lower, more granular level, then you can ignore this warning from the validation.

Per the Pivotal Document on vSphere/vCenter Requirements:

"Pivotal recommends using the default VMware Administrator System Role to achieve the appropriate permission level, or a custom role that has all privileges for all objects in the datacenter, including propagating privileges to children.

Should you wish to use more granular permissions:

Be advised that Ops Manager might indicate that you do not have the appropriate rights to create/delete folders when this is untrue. If so, click Ignore errors and start the install to continue."
