analyzedb Returns Error "relation "pg_temp_xxx.xxx" does not exist"

Environment

  • Pivotal Greenplum Database (GPDB) 4.3.x
  • Operating System- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x

Symptom

When utilizing analyzedb, the utility may fail if it encounters an orphaned temporary schema or table.

Error Message:

20160920:17:09:11:011197 analyzedb:mdw:gpadmin-[ERROR]:-analyzedb error: error 'ERROR: relation "pg_temp_5782323.#tableau_7_1_connect" does not exist

Cause

Temporary schemas should be deleted at the end of a session.
If a session crashes on a segment before the execution of the cleanup procedure, these tables can remain resident until removed. In some cases, the temporary schema may exist in a catalog table, but not all segments, causing the utility to fail as the command is broadcasted.

Resolution

Follow these steps to resolve this issue:

Orphaned Temporary Schemas in Greenplum Database

Once the orphaned schemas have been removed, the utility should be able to complete without error.
